Caring for yourself

Coping with stress

Everybody has a different threshold for the amount of stress they can handle. Here are some ways in which you can cope with high amounts of stress:

  • Identifying your tolerance level

Tracking your own moods and levels of stress can give you a good idea about the amount of stress that you can comfortably handle. This can allow you to plan your time better and make room for enough relaxation and recreation in your schedule so you don’t cross the level of stress that you can handle.

  • Exercise

Exercise helps use up the remaining energy that is built up in the body due to the excessive amount of stress hormones being released in the body.

  • Meditation and deep breathing

Deep breathing exercises and relaxation techniques like meditation can help slow down the heart rate, reduce blood pressure and improve blood circulation.
